Diffusion constant of the TIP5P model of liquid water

چکیده
The diffusion constant of TIP5P @J. Chem. Phys. 112, 8910 ~2000!#, the recently developed five-site rigid nonpolarizable model of liquid water that significantly improves the description of water’s density anomaly, has been calculated at a range of temperatures between 225 °C and 75 °C and pressures between 1 atm and 3000 atm. The diffusion constant, in units of 10 cm/s, for TIP5P water at 25 °C and 1 atm is 2.6260.04 as compared with the experimental value of 2.30. This is a significant improvement over most commonly used water models, e.g., for TIP4P and TIP3P @J. Chem. Phys. 79, 926 ~1983!# the diffusion constants are 3.2960.05 and 5.0660.09, respectively, and for SPC it is 3.8560.09. The diffusion constant of TIP5P decreases dramatically with decreasing temperature, as is observed experimentally, and the change in the diffusion constant as pressure is increased is also consistent with experimental results. © 2001 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1329346#

متن کاملA reoptimization of the five-site water potential (TIP5P) for use with Ewald sums.
The five-site transferable interaction potential (TIP5P) for water is most accurate at reproducing experimental data when used with a simple spherical cutoff for the long-ranged electrostatic interactions. When used with other methods for treating long-ranged interactions, the model is considerably less accurate. With small modifications, a new TIP5P-like potential can be made which is very acc...
متن کاملQuantum, intramolecular flexibility, and polarizability effects on the reproduction of the density anomaly of liquid water by simple potential functions
The ability of simple potential functions to describe the properties of liquid water at a range of thermodynamic state points has been explored. These simple potential function models represent a water molecule by a set of sites, either rigid or flexible relative to each other, that interact with a simple, generally classical, Hamiltonian, which has parameters that are empirically determined. C...

We review recent results of molecular dynamics simulations of two models of liquid water, the extended simple point charge (SPC/E) and the Mahoney-Jorgensen transferable intermolecular potential with five points (TIP5P), which is closer to real water than previously-proposed classical pairwise additive potentials. Simulations of the TIP5P model for a wide range of deeply supercooled states, inc...
